Postcard Marketing: Giving Something of Value to Others
Postcard marketing allows you to give something that others can
touch and feel. Why use this as part of your marketing strategy?
Can you imagine those times you go check your mailbox. Maybe
you're waiting for the mail carrier to deliver something. You wait with eager anticipation. Maybe the mail has already arrived and you're checking the delivery.
Remember the anticipation and excitement! Something great is
coming today. Instead you might receive junk mail or bills. You might receive a magazine or newspaper.
Remember how great it was when you received something addressed personally to you! Didn't you feel important and special to receive a personalized greeting?

Postcard marketing is about sending a personal note to a friend or business associate. The postcard could be sent to a friend. The postcard could also be for someone who connected with you or your business.
This "touch based" marketing allows your customer to remember you or your message. Most people need to be exposed to advertising 7 times before they respond to your message. That person needs to trust you thru positive follow-up.
That person needs to know that you care for her needs. You are
grateful that she took the time to learn about you or your
business. The postcard says "Thanks". The postcard also reminds them of you or your business.
Steps to develop a postcard marketing campaign
1. Contact Data: Record address information about the contact.
The contact could be a friend. The contact could also be a visitor who happened to discover you and your business. A great way to record contact data is through a web contact form. Provide something of value to the visitor in exchange for their contact information.
2. Postcard Campaign: Use a software system to develop a system to send a friendly postcard to your contact. The system would include the following:
-when to send the postcard-->Send a postcard immediately to someone who took some specific action like invest in your business. Also send immediate postcards to those you know well. Maybe that person is a member of your business team and had some success in a business activity. Sending a card immediately says "Well Done!". Send cards at a later time if it is for a specified anniversary date or birthday. Also send a card later to remind someone of a previous conversation.
-reason for a campaign-->Record all the reasons you'd send a card. It could be for a Thank You, Birthday, Wedding Anniversay, or a reminder of a Past discussion.
-create the card for each campaign-->Design the look and feel of
your card. Use your own photos or other photos. Design a unique message for that situation.
3. Send the Card: Once your system is set then send the card when it is appropriate. The important thing is to automate your
process as much as possible while still providing a personal touch.
Electronic communication doesn't mean that you should eliminate personal messages via the mail. Quite the opposite! That mailed message is a type of marketing that gives your business a personal connection and something that the receiver of the message can touch.
